"The Big Picture: Afghanistan" by The Boston Globe

Part of the Boston Globe's excellent compilation of photo essays/blogs, the Afghanistan series chronicles the day to day life of US Soldiers and the Afghan people they are trying to support.

BrantonJames
My name is Branton James and I consider myself a bit of a Military Buff. With old friends breaking into the Military world and a preexisting fascination with the hardware and operation of the US Armed Forces, I have continually weighed the pros and cons of Military service as a supplement to a college education. If in a few years’ time, after my (assumed) graduation, there is still a war to be fought and servicemen to support, I want to be very firm in my convictions before I even consider walking into a recruiting office. While a place in Army WOFT (Warrant Officer Flight Training) or the USAF with a pilot’s seat in a chopper or jet cockpit is certainly an alluring thought, if it meant sacrificing my core ideals to bend to the will of the US military I’m not sure I could survive mentally. Hopefully, with this blog as my outlet, I can come to grips with my true opinions regarding OUR war in the Middle East.
